Welcome to our serene fishing pond, where families can indulge in a day of outdoor enjoyment. The pond is designated for catch and release fishing only, with the peaceful waters teeming with fish waiting to be gently released back into their habitat. Safety is paramount, and therefore, swimming is strictly prohibited. Families can find refuge and comfort in Jim’s Hut, a charming shelter nestled by the water’s edge, offering a cozy spot to relax and take in the scenic surroundings. Adjacent to the hut, picnic tables beckon families to gather, unpack their baskets, and savor a leisurely meal together while soaking in the tranquility of the pond. As stewards of this natural haven, we kindly ask all visitors to uphold cleanliness by removing any litter, including used fishing gear, before departing. Parking is conveniently located at the designated pond parking lot, ensuring ease of access while preserving the serenity of the pond environment. Join us for a day of fishing, picnicking, and creating cherished memories amidst the beauty of our pond.

 

Pond Rules:

  1. Catch and Release Only: The pond is designated for catch and release fishing exclusively. Barbed hooks are not permitted to ensure the well-being of the fish population.

  2. No Swimming: For safety reasons, swimming is strictly prohibited in the pond area at all times.

  3. Minors Must Be Accompanied: Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older while enjoying activities at the pond.

  4. Pavilion Use: The pond pavilion is provided for relaxation and enjoyment. Please maintain cleanliness by removing and properly discarding any litter, including used fishing line and hooks, before leaving the area.

  5. Parking Regulations: Parking for the pond is designated at the pond parking lot only. No vehicles are permitted beyond the parking area to ensure the safety and preservation of the pond environment.

Jim Lender: A Lifetime of Dedication to Gem City Outdoorsmen Club

With nearly five decades of unwavering commitment to the Gem City Outdoorsmen Club (GCOC), Jim Lender stands as a pillar of the organization’s legacy. His journey within the club began almost half a century ago, and since then, Jim has left an indelible mark through his multifaceted contributions and steadfast leadership.

A fixture within GCOC’s governance structure, Jim has served in various pivotal roles, accumulating an impressive tenure as a director for close to three decades. Additionally, his twelve-year tenure as a trustee and three-year stint as Vice President underscore his deep-rooted dedication to the club’s mission and vision.

Jim’s impact extends beyond administrative duties, as he played an instrumental role in shaping the club’s recreational landscape. For many seasons, he spearheaded the outdoor archery program in collaboration with Chuck Gehr, pioneering innovations like 3D targets that transformed the club’s offerings and attracted a thriving community of enthusiasts.

Moreover, Jim’s stewardship was instrumental in orchestrating the Gem City Outdoorsmen Club’s participation in the International Bowhunter Organization Great Lakes Shoot Out, where his fifteen-year tenure as the public area coordinator exemplified his organizational prowess and commitment to excellence. From managing logistics to ensuring a seamless experience for participants, Jim’s meticulous attention to detail was instrumental in the event’s success.

Beyond event coordination, Jim’s dedication to enhancing member experiences was palpable through his stewardship of the Tap Room, where he graciously served refreshments and fostered camaraderie among competitors and visitors alike for over a decade.

Jim’s enduring legacy within GCOC is further underscored by his advocacy for infrastructure development. His efforts were pivotal in bringing about significant enhancements, including the addition of an indoor archery range, a spacious pole barn, trap house, storage facilities, and the creation of a serene pond and pavilion.

Despite his extensive tenure and myriad achievements, Jim’s commitment to GCOC remains as fervent as ever. As a stalwart director and a fixture at club meetings, his presence continues to inspire and invigorate the community, ensuring that GCOC’s legacy of outdoor adventure and camaraderie endures for generations to come.

In the annals of Gem City Outdoorsmen Club’s history, Jim Lender’s name shines brightly as a beacon of dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the spirit of outdoor recreation and community fellowship.

Notice to all Gem City members

This Friday evening April 5th through Monday afternoon April 8th is a Boy Scout-sanctioned function. NO ONE other than those who are registered for this event through the Boy Scouts, or those few members who are volunteering to assist are invited to camp on the grounds during this event. There are no exceptions.
 
The entire GCOC club grounds will be closed for this event. Limited trap shooting will be open on Sunday as scheduled from 9 until 1 PM.
